Cuba is the greatest island of the Caribbean. Its capital is the city of Havana and has several excellent ports, with Bay of Havana in the north, and Santiago de Cuba and Trinidad in the south among them. The coast of Cuba is very irregular, with numerous gulfs and bays and is surrounded by coral reefs. The climate of Cuba is semitropical, with an annual average temperature of 25 ºC (77 ºF). It has the greatest biodiversity of the Caribbean, and the vast marshy zones of mangle and dampness lodge a great variety of marine life.
Havana is the biggest and most populated city of the Antilles and one of the most colorful and ancient cities of the American continent. Founded on 1515 where the city of Batabanó is nowadays, was transferred to its present location in 1519, in the northwest border of the Bay of Havana. In the old town, known as Old Havana , the narrow and winding streets and the old houses with balconies are preserved. The points of interest of greater historical value are the convent of Santa Clara, the castle of the Real Force, the cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the castle of the Prince and the City Council. Outside the old town it is a city of modern aspect where the luxury residences and wide avenues prevail. Among the most attractive buildings are the Capitol, the Presidential Palace and the University of Havana; in addition to the National Museum and the Library. The Levee is the marine stroll of Havana and it extends several miles throughout the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.
The city of Trinidad, founded on 1514, was declared Patrimony of the Humanity in 1988. The abundance of sugar plantations and mills, worked by African slaves, fomented the prosperity of the city during the 18th century and colonial buildings of that time can be seen there.
Another important city, Santiago de Cuba, located to the southeastern of the island, has as its main attraction the Castle of San Pedro de la Roca, constructed during the 17th century to protect the city of their political and economic rivals, is the most complete and conserved example of military architecture of the Spanish in America. |

Haiti is a mountainous country that has two peninsulas that penetrate towards the west in the Caribbean Sea, separated by the Gulf of the Gonâve, which contains the Island of the Gonâve, the greatest of Haiti. Other islands are the Island of the Turtle and Grande Cayemite. The irregular coastal line of Haiti hides many natural harbors. Its climate is tropical, with an average temperature in the coast of 27 ºC (80,6 ºF), undergoing small variations of winter to summer. The climate of the mountains is very fresh.
Port Prince, located in the Gulf of the Gonâve, is the capital of Haiti and is the main port and commercial center of the country. It lodges the State University of Haiti, the National Library, the National Museum, the Archaeological Museum and the Art Center. Other points of interest include the National Palace, the basilica of Our Lady and the French levee constructed in 1780. Another attractive of Port Prince is the boisterous Iron Market, where merchandises are commercialized outdoors. In addition, guided visits to the distillery of the famous rum Barbancourt can be made from the city. The small town of Petionville, less than 7 km from Port Prince, is renown for its restaurants and cultural institutions.
The buildings of the Historical National Park Citadelle Sans Souci, in Ramiers date from beginnings of the 19th century, when Haiti proclaimed its independence, and are considered monuments to the situation of this country being the first black republic of the world. Two other cities of Haiti are CAP-Haïtien in the north, and Jacmel in the southern coast. They are appreciated by the tourists at the time of looking for peace and beautiful beaches. |

The Dominican Republic occupies the estern part of the Hispaniola and limits to the west with Haiti. The islands of Beata and Saona are also part of the country. The climate is semitropical, with temperatures higher than 23 ºC (73,4 ºF) throughout the year, oscillating between 27 and 35 ºC (80,6 and 95 ºF) in the summer.
The colonial city of Santo Domingo is the capital and biggest city of the Dominican Republic, located in the south coast. Founded on 1498, the city hosted the first cathedral, hospital and university of America. Reconstructed after the 1930 cyclone, has a modern image in spite of conserving many buildings of Spanish Renaissance style. The Cathedral of Santo Domingo, one of the colonial monuments most important of Santo Domingo, was begun to be constructed in 1521 and is the first cathedral built in America.
The city of La Romana constitutes the greater urban center of the east of the country. Only 9.5 km to the east of this city, tourists can visit a small arts town, called Altos de Chavón, constructed in the Eighties resembling a Spanish town of the 16th century.
There are some other cities of importance like San Pedro de Macorís, to the southeast of the island near the Caribbean Sea, and Salvaleón de Higüey, in the eastern, known for its sacred-artistic patrimony: basilica of the Altagracia and church of San Dionisio. San Felipe de Puerto Plata is located in the Amber coast and is the most important exporting port of the north. The beaches like Golden Beach, the Mount Isabel de Torres with a cable car ride to the top, the Fort San Felipe (1540) and the Amber Museum, make of this city an excellent tourist area. Santiago de los Caballeros, in the northeast of the country, is the second city in importance. Some attractive sights are the National Park Armando Bermúdez, that culminates in Pico Duarte, the tallest point of the Caribbean.
Two other cities that present beautiful beaches are Santa Barbara of Samaná, next to the Flechas gulf and Nagua, located in the Scottish Bay, next to the Old French National Park.
Lago Enriquillo is a salty lake located in the southwest of the country that constitutes a fishing center and a tourist attraction. The National Park Isla Cabritos, famous for its fauna of flamencos, crocodiles, iguanas and herons is in the center of the lake. |

Jamaica is located to the south of Cuba and the west of Haiti. It has a tropical climate with annual average temperature of about 27 ºC (80,6 ºF). There are some thermal sources in diverse zones and numerous stunningly beautiful rivers of fast current flow giving rise to numerous falls that allow the practice of a unique sport in Jamaica: the fall's climbing.
After old capital Port Royal was destroyed by an earthquake, the city of Kingston was based on 1692, and is the present capital and biggest city of Jamaica located on a natural harbor by the Blue Mountains. It acquired a modern aspect in the Eighties, when the old wharves were demolished and hotels, cultural centers and stores were built. The port is protected to the south by the Palisadoes, which are long bars of sand, and has capacity to accommodate all the cruises that come to Jamaica seeking for diversion and good weather. The partially submerged ruins of Port Royal are still visible near the city, in the port entrance. Other points of interest include Rockfort, a fort from the 17th century, and the Headquarters House, from the 18th century. Visitors can also see The Devon House, constructed in 1881 by the first millionaire of black race of the Caribbean, George Stiebel, now turned into a museum.
The two cities of preference when choosing lodging are Montego Bay and Negril. Montego Bay, in the heart of the Golden Coast, has spectacular Caribbean beaches like Doctor's Cave or White Sands, luxurious golf courses, ports and other sport facilities. It is a paradise for divers, who can enjoy the beautiful marine places or the hoisters farms in the near Island Bogue. The best beaches are in the western end of the island, in Negril. The Blue Mountains have a national park that offers a spectacular landscape and attracts many ornithologists. The Gardens of Cariñosa in Ocho Rios, constructed in 1987 can also be visited. And besides scuba diving you can hike in the mountains, you can mountain bike, surf, windsurf, climb and swim in waterfalls or go bamboo river rafting and tubing, ride horses, go on a canopy tour in the tropical forest or play golf. |

Is the smallest and eastern island of the Great Antilles. The State also includes the islands of Mona, Vieques and Culebra with an important reserve of birds and turtles. It is a mountainous island with coastal plains and a humid and tropical climate.
San Juan is the capital, the biggest city and the main port of Puerto Rico, as well as its main industrial, financial, cultural and tourist center. The old part of the city, Old San Juan, was built on a small island and is joined to the rest of the city through bridges and a high highway. The narrow and winding streets of extraordinary beauty and the numerous buildings constructed between the 16th and 17th centuries are the most outstanding characteristics of this part of the city. The old part is still flanked by its great walls, in which they emphasize several important forts, among them El Morro (begun in 1539) with gigantic walls of stone and San Cristóbal (17th century), declared both national monuments, and La Fortaleza (begun in 1533), today mansion of the governor. Also the gothic cathedral of San Juan Baptist (begun towards 1520) that lodges the tomb of the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce of Leon, and the Art Museum of Puerto Rico can be visited in the island. Going to the east of Old San Juan is the sector known as County Beach, main center of tourist activity of the city. The beach of Luquillo, near to the El Yunke hill, is a lovely palm-lined beach with calm waters for children, an ideal place to enjoy with the family and ride horses along the beach.
Ponce, main city of the southern part of the island was founded en1692 and named in honor of the Spanish conqueror Juan Ponce de Leon. It is located in the borders of the Caribbean Sea in the South slope of the Central Mountain range. It has one of the best ports of the island, the one of Playa Ponce, and has an airport in its proximity. To the west of the city is the Forest of Guanica, natural reserve declared Reserve of the Biosphere by UNESCO, with a great number of birds species and a unique vegetation. |
